Description: Alverno is a four-year, liberal arts, independent, Catholic college for women, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Chartered in 1887, the college offers Weekday and Weekend undergraduate programs and a coeducational master of arts program for teachers and trainers.
Alverno offers several programs catering to: undergraduate students, graduate students, international students and post baccalaureate students.
These programs fall into two categories; Weekday College and Alverno on the Weekend.
Weekday College Weekday College offers a complete bachelor's degree program for women of all ages. Classes are held Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Weekday College offers more than 60 program areas of study from which to choose.
Alverno On The Weekend Alverno On The Weekend offers a complete bachelor's degree program for working women in the areas of management, communication and leadership. This full-college experience offers classes Friday evening through Sunday afternoon every other weekend.
GRaduate Programs Offered every other weekend, graduate programs are for men and women. In the School of Education there are multiple programs for licensed teachers, and in Adult Education, there are options in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology and Organizational Development for business professionals. The School of Business has an MBA, and the School of Nursing has a Master's in Nursing that is Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist combined.
A unique dual curriculum: Alverno College is leading the nation in preparing students to take their places in tomorrow's world. That's because Alverno is unique in higher education. In addition to offering more than 60 program areas of study, including hundreds of career options, many in today's foremost fields, Alverno focuses on your mastery of these eight abilities within your discipline area of study: communication, analysis, problem solving, valuing, social interaction, developing a global perspective, effective citizenship and aesthetic response.
Evaluation and assessment instead of grades: In each class, you'll be assessed by faculty, professionals from the Milwaukee community whom Alverno has trained, and by yourself. You'll find that Alverno's assessment method will provide more information than a grade. The college also is fully approved by accrediting bodies, including the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and is accepted by graduate schools and employers.
Directions: From Chicago: Take I-94 north to Milwaukee. Take the Howard/Holt Avenue exit. Exit on Holt and go west (left). Holt becomes Morgan Avenue. Continue going west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The main entrance to campus will be on your right.
From Green Bay: Take I-43 south to Milwaukee. Proceed to I-94 toward Chicago. Exit on Holt Avenue, go west. Holt becomes Morgan Avenue. Continue going west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The main entrance to campus will be on your right.
From Madison: Take I-94 east to Milwaukee to Miller Park Way (south). Miller Park Way becomes 43rd Street. Continue south on 43rd Street past Oklahoma Avenue. The main entrance of the college will be on your left.
From Mitchell International Airport: Take the Downtown Milwaukee exit and go north on I-94. Take the Howard/Holt Avenue exit. Exit on Holt and go west (left). Holt becomes Morgan Avenue. Continue west to 43rd Street (2.5 miles). Turn right on 43rd Street. The main entrance to campus will be on your right.
